Gates, gates gates!!! We are unusually excited around here about gates. Why? Because we are finding out more and more every day that the opportunities are endless. And because we get to stretch our creativity a little bit. Gates, much like the front door of your home, allow you the opportunity to express your personality without all of the tattoos and colorful lipstick.
We have had so much fun putting together a Pinterest board full of ideas and inspiration. Take a look! Which are your favorites? https://www.pinterest.com/nancyporchco/ideas-for-gates/
When giving your home a facelift, you want everything to exist in harmony together. You want to make sure the brick color compliments your shutters, and that your hardscape pairs well with your columns. But give your front door or gate a pop of your favorite color, and suddenly your home is uniquely you!
Wooden gates are often a hassle for homeowners, because they bare the full brunt of the elements. Constant sun, rain, wind, etc. These elements are far from kind to wood… and force you to constantly have to maintain and even replace them.
That’s why we think PVC is the perfect low-maintenance material for gates. Let’s show you some options that we have come up with, depending on your desired look (and wallet).
Our first (and least expensive) gates are our one layer gates. These gates are made from 1″ thick PVC and are perfect for those smaller gates. Here are some photographs of our 1 layer gates:
Our next step up is our 2 layer gates. The more layers, the more dimension you are going to have and the stronger your gate is going to be. This also means more cost for materials and more cost for labor, as we have to adhere the layers together. Having a two layer gate means that one side will have lots of dimension, while the back side will not. What we often do to compensate for this is route out some lines on the back side of the gate. Still, this gate style is best if you have one side that gets the most visibility. Here are some pictures of our two layer gates:
And last but certainly not least, our 3 layer gates. These are the strongest, most dimensional looking gates. But because of this, they are also the most expensive. But when you are spending money on a gate that is going to last a lifetime and not require a lot of maintenance, we still think this is a win win. Take a look at this 3 layer gate that we were actually able to paint a a faux wood grain on! All of the benefits of having a beautiful stained wood gate, without… well, the wood.
