Many of our new porch clients find they love having an additional room to decorate for the holidays! These homeowners in Nashville, TN, demonstrate that you don’t need to wait for the Christmas/winter holidays to make things festive on the porch. Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Spring, Easter, 4th of July – pick your holidays and dress up your porch, inside and out!
As The Porch Company’s newest Nashville screened porch demonstrates, the possibilities for seasonal color in and around your screened porch are endless. You’re limited only by your imagination! Indoors, try to add a piece or two to your porch’s colorful holiday décor each year. Outdoors, use great big planters like the ones you see here for blooms that pop with seasonal color. Fall-color chrysanthemums will look fabulous in these planters for Halloween.
This handsome screened porch features many of our favorite Porch Company design elements. Of course, one thing that stands out here is our signature PorchCo bed swing. This is our newest bed swing available through The Porch Store – The Rustic Cottage Bed Swing. You can sleep on it! The bed swing is made to accommodate a twin bed mattress.
Another favorite of many Porch Company clients is the Barnwood mantel we included in our fireplace design. Everyone loves these mantels because they hide the wires and such from the electronics. The mantel is exceptionally practical and attractive, a good match for this beautiful wood-burning stone fireplace.
Notice the beautiful doors leading into this screened porch – double doors for the main entrance and a single door off one side. We built the doors with a kind of wood called Sapele, similar to mahogany. This African wood is known for its beauty and durability. It stands up to the weather, and it’s resistant to insects and rot. We love its uniform texture and natural luster. The wood color stands out beautifully here against the white posts supporting the porch roof.
The interior ceiling is flat with exposed beams in white, and the effect contributes nicely to the casual, relaxed feeling of the porch.
In many of our screened porches we install cedar flooring, but these Nashville homeowners wanted to keep their stain-and-stamp concrete patio floor. We were able to work with them on that, but they did have to have the floor redone with a new top coat.
As you look up, you’ll see we used one large fan to stir up welcome breezes in this space. The placement of a fan, the fan size, and the number of fans used on a porch are affected by other design elements at ceiling level. We are careful to consider spatial requirements when designing a ceiling to include fans, infrared heaters, and the ropes holding the bed swing. We never want the ceiling to look crowded. Even more important, we have to provide plenty of clearance for all of these elements to function properly.
Finishing touches … we used matching classic lantern-style light fixtures on the interior and exterior of this porch. Outside, we built planters as a way for the clients to add splashes of seasonal color. With ghost pillows on the bed swing and the adorable witch, pumpkin and jack-o-lantern on the hearth, these homeowners are already getting into the spirit.
