This outdoor living combination environment provides space for indoor and outdoor enjoyment alike. The project consists of an expansive custom screened porch showcasing a rustic stone outdoor fireplace. Just outside the porch is a raised curvilinear paver patio complete with an outdoor kitchen. The Porch Company worked in unison with our friends at Living Stone to bring the hardscape areas to life.
Taking in the entire scope of the project, it’s easy to see why these Brentwood homeowners have fallen in love with their home all over again. Having an outdoor living space that functions on so many levels is a huge benefit. An effective, multi-faceted design such as this one can add value to your home and serve as an intimate refuge for family to gather while still offering enough space to entertain a crowd.
The screened porch was designed as an extension of the home and the outdoors. Looking at the view of the porch from the backyard, your eye is automatically drawn to the rustic warmth of the stacked stone foundation. The colors are carefully matched to the home’s existing hues while still complimenting the new paver patio. You will also notice the complex shed/gable/flat combination roofline addressing all the needs of the addition from a structural and aesthetic perspective. Entering the porch, you would never know that the classic, flat beadboard ceiling sits underneath a complex, dual exterior roofline.
As we have pointed out many times, colors can have a profound effect on your mood. The eclectic palette this homeowner chose for the interior brings in neutral colors that suggest a quiet, relaxing atmosphere alongside vibrant accents of turquoise, salmon and comforting denim.
The porch interior is finished with our signature 10” boxed columns with crown moldings and Porch Company picket panels. The wood-burning stone fireplace takes its majestic spot at the opposite end of the porch and features a raised hearth and wooden mantel made from 100-year-old reclaimed barn wood. The warm tongue & groove cypress flooring is a breeze to maintain and brings more warmth into the space.
Just a stone’s throw from the screened porch (no pun intended), sits a perfectly placed raised, curvilinear paver patio with tiered steps. The outdoor kitchen is well-equipped with a grill, burner, fridge, warming drawers and plenty of under-counter storage. The patio and outdoor kitchen design and installation was completed by Living Stone. We have worked with their talented team many times and love how they were able to expand on the homeowner’s vision of an outdoor oasis.
Last but certainly not least, we certainly cannot overlook the loving finishing touches we add to all of our projects. Tucked just under the stairs is a small door. This custom door built by The Porch Company is small enough to not command attention but large enough for an adult to easily enter. The door serves as the entrance to the storage area under the porch — almost magical!
