This West Nashville screened porch is the kind of porch we all want to call home. This recent Porch Company project was built with premium PorchCo products and TimberTech® AZEK decking, beautifully built to last.
Luxury is in the details, from the grandest to the smallest throughout this porch and deck project. Thoughtful planning and design are evident in every nook and cranny of this homey outdoor living space. This screened porch has character abound, and offers an additional outdoor living space you might not expect. So, let’s go west – to West Nashville, that is – and delve into all the details that make this porch and deck a collective win.
Even though the grill deck is not expansive, it was built with beautiful, long-lasting TimberTech AZEK decking. Notice the details in the mitered connections on the decking boards. Chosen from their Harvest Collection, this Slate Gray decking has a 50-year fade and stain warranty, which is why we say, “beautifully built to last.”
The screened porch was designed with a flat roof to accommodate the exterior design of the home. Flat roofs are often chosen when windows or points of entry exist on the second story of the home. A gable roof, for instance, would block windows and exterior doors. For this project, a flat roof also provides a walk-out balcony atop the porch, which you will see more of a bit later.
For this railing, we used PorchCo’s Hermitage sleeve and cap. We also installed aluminum spindles and a matching AZEK top rail for a wholly low-maintenance deck and porch railing. Notice the transition from the landing to the stair, how at The Porch Company, we love to create usable designer appeal even for a deck stair. This dual deck stair is extra-wide on both sides for easy traffic flow and looks beautiful to boot. Had we not created this grill deck landing, and broken up the deck stair into two sets, these homeowners would have had one very long climb from the yard to the porch.
These homeowners won’t want for outdoor storage with an enclosed space beneath the porch for just the thing! We created stained porch skirting, framed in white, and double access doors for easily moving stored items in and out.
To match the aluminum picket porch and deck railing, we used a PorchCo screen door with picket infill. This solid wood door offers a lovely aesthetic that is hardly achievable with any other material. The contrast of the natural Sapele wood finish is a beautiful statement in the overall design.
There’s no better way to bring a porch to a pinnacle of comfort than by adding an outdoor fireplace. This manufactured stone fireplace offers random shapes and colors you would expect to find in nature, tricking the eye into believing it really is stone. This gas-burning fireplace will be ready with the touch of a button for instant warmth and ambiance. We placed the mantel lower, in case the homeowners choose to mount a TV or even a piece of art above.
The porch flooring is a AZEK tongue and groove design, which means no visible hardware and no splintering. The decadent porch aesthetic is further promoted by way of ambient sconce lighting and PorchCo porch curtains. This outside space truly feels like an extension of the indoor spaces of the home.
Let’s look up, lest we forget to mention this beautiful ceiling. Even flat-roof porches deserve a fabulous ceiling treatment. This beamed ceiling gives the space dimension with stained sheathing, beautifully-framed with white beams that accommodate two ceiling fans.
How many homeowners lament they never use their formal interior dining room? We often eat in spaces, such as breakfast nooks or snack bars to take in informal meals. Well, this screened porch dining area that is directly accessible from inside the home, and from the grill deck below, will undoubtedly be one of the choice dining areas for this family.
An additional ceiling fan and sconce lighting make this outdoor dining area even more usable. From morning coffee to lunch with friends to holiday dining, this porch will accommodate all and then some. And what a view! Oh, and there’s something pretty special on the roof above the dining area too.
The Porch Company will go to great heights to design an outdoor living space that will invite you outdoors for ultimate use. This project includes a second-story walk-out deck, which was built using coordinating decking and railing materials from the spaces below. This balcony will offer a great space of private respite, with views abound.
